2026 Sands China Macao International 10K attracts nearly 10,000 runners

One of Macau’s annual sporting highlights, the 2026 Sands China Macao International 10K, was held on Sunday. Co-organized by the Sports Bureau of the Macao SAR Government, Sands China Ltd and the General Association of Athletics of Macau, it featured the 10K race and a Fun Run, attracting nearly 10,000 runners from 38 countries and regions – showcasing the strong appeal of Macau’s sports tourism events.

Macau government will review concessionaire non-gaming spend, push greater support of Hengqin

In his 2025 Policy Address, Macau Chief Executive Sam Hou Fai said the government will guide Macau’s gaming concessionaires to invest more resources in supporting key industrial projects in Macau and Hengqin. Among his key policy directions were for Macau to effectively implement the plan for the development of an appropriately diversified economy, accelerate the development of the Hengqin Deep Co-operation Zone and promote the development of the “1+4” diversified industries. Sam said, “We will urge the gaming concessionaires to carry out non-gaming investments effectively and guide the concessionaires to put more resources into supporting key industrial projects.”

Macau GGR hits MOP$183.1 billion in 2023, triggering mandatory 20% increase in concessionaire non-gaming investment

Macau recorded gross gaming revenue of MOP$183.1 billion (US$22.7 billion) in 2023, representing a 334% year-on-year increase and marking a phenomenal recovery since borders reopened post-COVID. However, the new 10-year gaming concessions signed by all six operators in December 2022 included a stipulation that their non-gaming investment commitments will increase by 20% should Macau-wide GGR exceed MOP$180 billion in any of the first five years of the new concession period, meaning any year from 2023 to 2027 inclusive. This “trigger event” was achieved in the very first year of the new concessions.

Sands has committed to spend MOP$27.8 billion (US$3.5 billion) in non-gaming initiatives in Macau over the decade to 31 December 2032. This includes MICE investments, the expansion of Le Jardin, the production of major entertainment and sports events in Macau, development of new restaurants, a luxury yacht launch, celebrity appearances, a comprehensive marketing strategy to promote international visitation, commitments to local SME businesses, and investments in staff development and cultural heritage.

Wynn has committed to spend MOP$16.5 billion (US$2.1 billion) in non-gaming initiatives in Macau over the decade to 31 December 2032. This includes initiatives to expand international inbound markets for Macau, the creation of a new performance theatre, the development of new restaurants, the construction of a Wynn Event and Entertainment Centre to support MICE, sports, entertainment and other events, an interactive and immersive “experience” centre, the construction of an art gallery, the development of an outdoor sculpture garden, support for sporting events, the development of health and wellness initiatives, a range of CSR initiatives and much more.

MGM has committed to spend MOP$15.0 billion (US$1.9 billion) in non-gaming initiatives in Macau over the decade to 31 December 2032.
